My daughter decided to join me shooting some #urbex

Lauren is a real sport!  I usually don't get any takers when I ask at home if anyone wants to come and shoot a creepy abandoned POW camp.  Imagine that!  This time Lauren asked if she could come along.  She's a great daughter and a great buddy that I'm always happy to spend time with. :)

Photos: More of the WWII POW Camp in Bowmanville, ON

I just can't help myself!  I can't get enough of this place.  It's amazing to thing of it's history and I love all the urban textures I see in the run down rooms and spaces.

Photos of Abandoned WWII POW Camp

My mom knows how much I love to run around taking photos, so when she heard about this WWII POW camp she told me right away.  I headed out there today and got some cool shots.

Most of the buildings are tightly boarded up but as this is somewhat remote there are bound to be kids breaking open the boards.  I was able to get into one of the buildings and take some photos of the basement.  I have to say, I was thoroughly creeped out being in there...but I lived. ;)

BTW, this camp is in Bowmanville, Ontario.

My Christmas Calendar photo

This is a house just north of where I live.  Once it started snowing earlier this month I jumped in my car and headed that way, not really intending to snap that house, just wanted something with the snow.  But it's hard to ignore a country house like this with new snow falling, isn't it?

This ended up being the photo on the front of the calendars I made for family but I wouldn't trust it as a print for customers.  I had to edit out some powerlines and am not completely pleased with the result.  It's fine from a distance...just stay far away. :)

I won a photo contest!

Yep, I won a photo contest that DowntownOshawaNews.com was running this month.  There were some great photos there, so I didn't really think I would win, but I was quite please when I was told I had.  No, it's not Canadian National Geographic, but I am still pumped about having won. :)

My prize for winning is a gift certificate to Mad Cafe in Oshawa and a article/interview on the site.

Here is the photo: "Show's Over"

By the tracks

I'm really enjoying the process of...processing. :)  A simple photo can really become far more interesting depending on the edit.  I'm not at all one of those straight-from-the-camera types.  I much prefer to create something artistic and different when I can.  Don't get me wrong, some shots are great with minimal to no edits but whenever I think it warrants I will create a mood in my shots.
