My Christmas Calendar photo

This is a house just north of where I live.  Once it started snowing earlier this month I jumped in my car and headed that way, not really intending to snap that house, just wanted something with the snow.  But it's hard to ignore a country house like this with new snow falling, isn't it?

This ended up being the photo on the front of the calendars I made for family but I wouldn't trust it as a print for customers.  I had to edit out some powerlines and am not completely pleased with the result.  It's fine from a distance...just stay far away. :)

I won a photo contest!

Yep, I won a photo contest that DowntownOshawaNews.com was running this month.  There were some great photos there, so I didn't really think I would win, but I was quite please when I was told I had.  No, it's not Canadian National Geographic, but I am still pumped about having won. :)

My prize for winning is a gift certificate to Mad Cafe in Oshawa and a article/interview on the site.

Here is the photo: "Show's Over"

By the tracks

I'm really enjoying the process of...processing. :)  A simple photo can really become far more interesting depending on the edit.  I'm not at all one of those straight-from-the-camera types.  I much prefer to create something artistic and different when I can.  Don't get me wrong, some shots are great with minimal to no edits but whenever I think it warrants I will create a mood in my shots.

PhotoArt - Farmland in Autumn

P1120647_tonemapped

Not too sure how I should label my posts that are just photos, so I will try the PhotoArt label.  With these being posted on twitter and other places I want people to know what to expect before hitting the link. :)

This shot is an HDR of a local barn.  It's actually a tiny little farm but there is a bunch of junk around it.  While it's not the most beautiful for neighbors I makes for cool photos. ;)  I muted the colours on this shot to give it different feel than most of my other shots.  Hope you like it.

Xavier's Mansion

This is Parkwood Estate in Oshawa, Ontario which has been in quite a few movies including the first X-Men.  Kinda cool to have this close by.  :)

"Misty river". The first print I have sold.

Misty_river

This shot is a local river.  More importantly, this is the first shot I have sold.  A buyer in the US has ordered a 20x24 canvas box of it and I have to say that it's quite a boost to my ego.  Hey, who doesn't need a boost from time to time. :)

It's been a long time since I updated this blog but I do plan on posting more regularly here.

Peaceful pond

P172

I was driving past this farm and almost missed this great pond since it's tucked behind some trees. Glad I didn't.

I blame Google

P478

It's been quite a while since I posted here an I'm going to have to blame Google for that. This blog has turned into my photography catch-all but with Google's new social network it's easy to forget about blogs and other sites.

Google+ has a great platform for posting pictures and albums and a very active community. When I post here the view count is depressingly low but on G+ I get instant feedback from others.

Hey, I'm not saying we should forget about blogs, but I bet there are many of them sitting quiet while their owners are on this new social network. Maybe if The blog comment system was tied to G+ we could see more activity here. Hmmmm...
