Shooting RAW images with a point and shoot?!
I've only just recently started to get into photography and got myself a Canon Powershot SX30is, a higher-end point and shoot. I figured this would last me a couple years before I'd want to get a DSLR. Well, I already want a DSLR. :P
One of the things I have been playing with is producing HDR photos, which is basically combining multiple exposures of the same shot into one picture. The problem I've been having is in getting enough information (mainly lighting) from my photos to get the effect I wanted.
Anyway, while asking some questions on a photog forum it was suggested I look at CHDK. Zoink!! It does a ton of stuff but the biggest thing for me is that it captures the RAW image in addition to the regular jpeg.
The result of all this is that I feel like my Canon Powershot has a much longer useful life than I had been thinking. There is still a lot more I could get out of a DSLR but this'll keep me happy for now.
Now I just need to figure out how to upgrade my $10 tripod. ;)
